TWO suspects have been arrested while two hijacked vehicles and firearms were recovered by cops in Nelson Mandela Bay district on Saturday, 29 July.

This after three suspects allegedly went on a crime spree in Kwanobuhle on Saturday.

Police spokeswoman, Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said the three suspects, aged between 25 and 32, allegedly hijacked an Audi A3 in Dunjwa Street and a white VW Polo in Qolohle Street in Kwanobuhle on Saturday.

"At approximately 8:30pm, the members found the VW Polo in Ndlambe Street in Kwanobuhle and as soon as the three suspects saw the SAPS members, they started shooting at them.

"Members returned fire and two suspects were wounded and taken to hospital for further treatment. The third suspect succumbed to his injuries on the scene. An inquest was opened for further investigation," she said.

Janse van Rensburg said cops recovered the red Audi A3 in Qolohle Street, where the suspects hijacked the VW Polo.

"The VW Polo was also confiscated and during the search of the vehicle, they confiscated one firearm, while a second firearm was recovered next to one of the suspects. The complainants' wallets and cell phones were also recovered.

"The suspects are detained on multiple charges of possession of hijacked vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition. They will appear in the Kwanobuhle Magistrates Court soon," said Janse van Rensburg.
