TWO men who were arrested with 479kg of dagga, worth more than R700 000, will appear in the Sabie Magistrates Court on Thursday, 26 January, for dealing in dagga.

The men, aged 29 and 34, are from Tanzania and eSwatini, respectively.

They were arrested in Sabie outside Graskop, Mpumalanga, while driving with the stash stuffed in their white Hyundai H1 on Wednesday, 25 January.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed that members from visible policing were conducting a stop-and-search operation when they stopped the vehicle, with foreign registration number plates.

“Upon searching it, they found 14 plastic bags of dagga sealed with masking tape. It was weighing about 479kg, and is worth over R700 000 in street value. Preliminary investigation found that the luggage was from Eswatini,” he said.

Mohlala said that both suspects had valid travel documents, but police would engage the Department of Home Affairs to verify their legitimacy.

Provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela has commended members for their success.

“People must never make the mistake of taking the province as an easy passage for narcotics and other illicit substances,” she said.
