THE city of Tshwane has condemned the torching of a bus and is calling for swift action to be taken against the perpetrators.
The shocking incident happened in the early morning of Friday, 3 November in Olievenhoutbosch.
Katlego Mathebe, MMC for Roads and Transport, said she received a report that a Tshwane Bus Services (TBS) bus had been set on fire in Olievenhoutbosch.
"This happened against the backdrop of the city’s administration taking action against bus drivers who were involved in an illegal strike. I condemn this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. Such criminal behaviour not only undermines our efforts to provide reliable and affordable public transport to our commuters, but also threatens the safety of dedicated bus drivers and commuters," she said.

Mathebe called on the security forces to do more to ensure that offenders are punished to restore law and order.
"Over the past few weeks, the city has been working closely with the security cluster and developing strategies to ensure that our buses are back on the road and serving residents. We've seen a gradual increase in our TBS shifts, from 52 out of 160 last week Friday to 107 today, with A Re Yeng operating at 100% capacity," she said.
In addition, the city will provide the necessary support services to the affected bus driver and will temporarily suspend the shift in Olievenhoutbosch from Friday, 3 November until police complete the investigation.
"The city will continue to forge ahead to provide safe and reliable public transport to the people of Tshwane," she said.
