ACTIONSA in Ekurhuleni has filed criminal case against EFF Gauteng leader and MMC for Finance, Nkululeko Dunga, at Germiston cop shop on Friday, 3 November.

The charges stem from allegations that Dunga breached a number of city laws and policies by equipping his vehicle with blue lights and using a state security, which resulted in an alleged fatal car accident that claimed the life of one person.

Dunga was travelling with his blue light motorcade on the R21 near the Pomona exit when the accident happened.

Whilst the police investigate a case of culpable homicide, the circumstances of the accident are still unclear.

ActionSA claimed that they have been reliably informed that the vehicle involved belongs to a prominent business who was recently awarded tenders in the city.

ActionSA caucus leader Siyanda Makhubo said they have opened the case so that Dunga can be held accountable.

“We are happy that we have a serious case against the MMC for him to face. They have made contact with our EMPD (Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department) and it has been confirmed that it is a serious case,” Makhubo said.

Reacting to the case, EFF Gauteng spokesman Dumisani Baleni dismissed the allegations and the laying of charges against him.

He described the allegations as baseless, opportunistic and cheap politics.

“I want to make it clear that the private vehicle mentioned was not fitted with state security or  blue lights and did not cause the accident that day. There is an accident report that makes this clear.

“We also note that ActionSA and its coalition partners have used this accident as an opportunity to score cheap political points with various allegations,” he said.

Baleni further said this was one of many failed attempts to discredit the commendable work of the EFF in serving the residents of Ekurhuleni.

“The provincial chairman is visibly recovering from the accident and has and will continue to respond appropriately to any legal issues arising from the matter,” he said.
