Tragic end to boozy night!

accreditation

A NIGHT of boozing ended on a horrific note when the host set himself alight in his shack.

According to friends, the 24-year-old bought booze and meat for them but little did they know it was his way of saying goodbye.

The incident happened in the Thandanani area of Verulam, north of Durban, on the night of Friday 2 September.

Reaction Unit of South Africa (RUSA) spokesman Prem Balram told Daily Sun officers received a call from neighbours after his shack went up in flames with him inside.

Tragically, by the time officers got to the scene, it was already too late. They found the charred remains of the self-employed tiler inside the shack.

According to Balram, the man’s intoxicated girlfriend was home when he returned from the night of boozing.

He said the man started talking to the girlfriend, telling her he loved her.

He then pleaded with her to leave the shack as he intended to take his own life.

“He then forced her out of the residence and locked the door,” he said.

“Shortly after, the shack burst into flames.

“The deceased could be heard screaming for several minutes before the shack collapsed.

“The motive for the suicide was not immediately established.”

Cops were not available for comment.
