WHAT was supposed to be a day of summer fun ended tragically when a 23-year-old man from Tshiulungoma Village in Limpopo lost his life in a drowning incident.
The incident happened at Nandoni Dam on Thursday, 23 November.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was enjoying a swim with friends when the unfortunate incident occurred.
According to a witness who spoke to Daily Sun, the friends of the deceased heard him screaming for help, but their rescue attempts were hindered by the fear of crocodiles known to inhabit the dam.
“His friends saw him drowning while screaming, but they couldn't rescue him as they thought he was attacked by a crocodile.

“We are concerned about the number of people who drown inside the dam, but we cannot suggest that they prohibit us from entering as it’s a good fishing and chilling place,” said the witness.
Vhembe police spokesman Sergeant Vuledzani Dathi confirmed the incident.
“Police were called about the said drowning by the fishermen and on arrival, they were shown a male body floating on the water. It was identified as that of Tshedza Ravhutsi (23). The deceased was thoroughly scrutinized, and no foul play is suspected. He was certified dead by the medical staff or EMS,” said Dathi.
The police search and rescue team promptly retrieved the body from the water, transporting it to the local government mortuary for further investigations.
Daily Sun tried to reach the family of the deceased, but they refused to speak to the SunTeam.
As the community grapples with this devastating loss, authorities continue to emphasise the importance of water safety, especially during recreational activities in areas known for potential dangers.
