THE Nelspruit Magistrates Court heard how the alleged murdered of makhwapheni was persuaded by his wife to turn himself in.

Abednigo Mbuyane (38) appeared in the same court for his bail hearing. He was in April 2023 and charged with the murder of his colleague Thamsanqa Nkosi (34), who was a traffic inspector at the Mpumalanga Public Works, Roads and Transport Department.

This was after he found Nkosi with his wife at KwaNyoni Lodge outside Mbombela.

Nkosi was shot twice, and he was confirmed dead at the scene. Mbuyane fled the scene.

State witness Warrant Officer Jacobus De Lange said Mbuyane did not surrender to police immediately after the shooting, but was persuaded to turn himself in by his wife.

"There is a police statement that says a police official contacted the suspect to hand himself over to the police or to come to the police station. He only came approximately after two or three hours later after the shooting incident," he said.

De Lange said that Mbuyane should not be granted bail because he could harm himself or the public.

"The wife said he is considering taking his own life. He will not be safe if he is released on bail. I fear for his own safety and that of his community," he said.
