A GANG of more than six heavily armed tsotsis bombed an ATM at the BP petrol station in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga on Monday, 27 March.

Motorists who witnessed the drama said they were about to get into the station to put in petrol when the incident occurred.

They said the tsotsis emerged from their cars, others on foot and raided the petrol station.

One of the motorists said: "The tsotsis quickly confronted the staff members with guns as they forced entry into station premises. They quickly dashed in and we heard a loud bang. Some of the windows shattered. Later the gang came out running with some money and vanished into  thin air."

Another witness said they had to run for cover as the gang cocked their guns.

"This is not first time the station's hit by thugs. A few weeks ago the station was attacked by a gang, leaving a huge damage. We believe it is the same perpetrators who previously hit the station," he said.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said:" The  police are investigating a case of ATM bombing which took place at BP garage in Acornhoek near Bushbuckridge.

"It is alleged that on Monday, 27 March at 1.30am, more than six unknown men emerged and pointed firearms demanding  entrance  to the  garage. They entered into the shop and planted explosives which damaged the building. Suspects are unknown and they fled with an undisclosed amount of money," he said.
