A COMMUNITY is in shock after three men were gunned down in the street on Saturday, 17 December.
Residents of site C in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, rushed out after hearing gunshots. They found a body inside a taxi and two more lying outside of the vehicle on Idada Street.
A resident said: “I waited for about 10 minutes to go outside after hearing gunshots. Two men were bleeding on the street and the other one was in the taxi.” The resident said their neighbour was shot while walking.
“He was caught in the crossfire, but thank God he’s alive and in hospital.”
Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association spokesman Andile Khanyi said he wasn’t aware of the incident.
South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) deputy chairman, Nceba Enge, said: “I’m not sure what happened exactly.”
Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said bodies of two men with gunshot wounds were discovered next to a Toyota Quantum taxi, while the third was found inside.
“According to reports, four unknown gunmen opened fire at the victims in what we believe was related to the taxi industry. A bystander, who sustained a gunshot wound, was admitted to the hospital,” he said.
Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Reagen Allen said cops needed to arrest the shooters as this also happened just after another shooting in Bishop Lavis.
