THREE young men from Philippi, Cape Town are in hot water after they were bust on Tuesday, 14 November with a stripped car that was reported stolen.
When cops arrived at the scene, some of the car parts were already removed and placed in a nearby shack.
Residents from the area told Daily Sun that the stripping of stolen cars is common in their area. In most cases, residents said the stripping happened at night.
“Car thieves do not sleep, they strip at night and in the morning or during the day, they do not work. What normally happens is that they just park the car in between shacks all day and work on it at night,” said a resident who didn’t want to be named.
Other residents from Ramaphosa Squatter Camp in Philippi said they also have a similar problem in their kasi.
“People doing this are young, early 20s. I wonder who employs them. If you see a car parked in our kasi, the following day you will see only a carcass. They strip it very fast. They have their spots where they do these things. Police sometimes patrol but not often,” said the resident.
