THE teacher who was caught allegedly stealing photocopy papers is no longer welcome at the school.
These were the words of Moses Seloadi, the chairman of the School Governing Body at the Matlaisane High School in Moretele, North West.
He said the teacher who is alleged to have stolen the papers usually came to the school at around 4am and left at 5.20am.
Seloadi said on Monday, 21 November, he saw that the school’s lights were off and went to investigate.
He said that the man who is responsible for opening the school at 6am was already at school at 4am.
Seloadi said he saw the man pushing a trolley loaded with boxes of paper.
“I told the man that since there was no break in at school, I was leaving and when I was outside the schoolThen I saw the lights of a car and hid in the grass,” he said.
He approached the teacher and asked him why he was at the school.
He asked him to open the car boot and there were were empty Typexboxes of paper.
Seloadi said he was with two community members.
“When we asked questions, the teacher said we must talk as men,” said Seloadi.
“He asked for forgiveness and tried to bribe us. He offered me R1 500 and the two men R1 000 each,” he said.
“The teacher confessed he was stealing the paper and was taking it to his uncle.
He said he suspected the teacher has been doing this for some time.
“We reported the teacher to the principal, but he has not acted,” said Seloadi.
Seloadi said that they don’t want the teacher at the school anymore.
Seloadi said the department must remove the teacher from the school.
“Our main challenge at school is that materials go missing at school.”
Phineas Lelaka, a patroller at the school, said they didn’t want the teacher at the school anymore. that their complaints are not heard. The teacher must go and take care of his cattle,” he said.
North West Department of Education spokesman Elias Malindi said: “We will send officials to the school for investigations.”
