THIS Easter weekend will see many Sassa beneficiaries hang high and dry.
This is because they will wait until after the weekend to be paid.
So, as many families will break their fast in this holy week, they should consider efficient spending of their last coins.
Nevertheless, below is a list of Sassa dates to look out for:
- 3 April 2024: Sassa Older Persons Grants.
- 4 April 2024: Sassa Disability Grants.
- 5 April 2024: Sassa Children’s Grants.
This month will also see a fruitful bank notification for Social Relief Grant (SRD) beneficiaries.
The SRD grant, popularly known as the R350 grant, is expected to be raised to R370 in April.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced this on 13 March in the National Assembly. He justified this increase as their way of ensuring that Mzansi citizens stay afloat amid the increased cost of living in the country.
"We're sensitive to the increase in the cost of living for the nearly 19 million South Africans who rely on these grants to make ends meet. In this regard, we've done as much as the fiscal envelope allows," he said.
While there were mixed emotions towards this increase, many residents of Jabulani Hostel in Soweto last week argued that this R20 increase would not make a difference.
“This R20 increase will make no difference to the grant that we are getting. Firstly, you can’t meet half of your basic needs with this R350. What is it that R20 will do?" said Benjamin Dube.
Benjamin (42), who is unemployed, told Daily Sun that with the R350 he gets every month, he buys bathing soap, maize meal, and meat, and that’s about it.
In the meantime, payments for those approved for March effectively started on 25 March and will run until 29 March.
Beneficiaries have also been cautioned by the government that funds will take about two to three days to reflect on their accounts after payments have been made.
