THE Mogoba Men's Forum takes actions against gender-based violence (GBV).

The forum said that the only way to eradicate GBV is to teach the community, and men in particular, that violence destroys.

The men from Mogoba, near Putfontein in Ekurhuleni, led the community in celebrating the end of the 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence campaign on Sunday, 10 December.

The campaign started on Saturday, 25 November and ended on Sunday, 10 December.

The men's forum was joined by the Putfontein and Etwatwa police, the local CPF, the drum majorette drum group to entertain the walkers, churches and other organisations.

Reverend Melusi Mpengesi, chairman of the Mogoba Men's Forum, said the walk was the fifth since the formation of the men's forum.

"Kids have lost mothers and fathers and families have lost loved ones to gender-based violence. Today it's just a walk to fight against GBV," he said.

Esther Mahlangu said there's still a long way to go before the message gets through.

"It's events like these that remind perpetrators that violence against others does not build, it destroys. Little by little, the perpetrators will change their behaviour," he said.

Another participant, Ivy Nkutha, said she lost her friend to GBV, and it gives her hope that one day something will change.
