Teen hangs himself!

accreditation

THE gogo of a teenage boy who hanged himself said it will take time to accept that her grandson is no more.

Nsika Maphumulo (15) from Maotana, north of Durban, returned from school on Friday and did his daily chores.

He fetched water and filled up the water tanker.

He then made himself some food and sat down to eat. None of his family members paid attention to him because there was nothing strange or suspicious in what he was doing. His aunt and mother then left to do some shopping.

The grade 10 pupil from a school in Phoenix, north of Durban, was then left alone.

His gogo Ntombifikile Maphumulo (62) said Ntsika was found hanging in the dining room.

“I never thought I’d see my grandson dead in such a terrible manner. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this, and I don’t think the pain will ever go away,” she said.

She said Nsika didn’t leave a note to explain to them why he decided to take his own life.

“We don’t know why he did this. Some of his friends from school told us that something might have happened to him at school, but they didn’t explain what that could be and why,” she said.

She said Nsika was a quiet and responsible child.

He made sure that he did all his house chores.

“He was such a good boy. I don’t know what led him to take his own life. I’m hurt and I don’t think I’ll ever recover from this,” she said.

KZN police spokeswoman Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that an inquest docket was opened at Inanda Police Station after a 15-year-old was found dead at his home.

“Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” she said.
