A 19-year-old suspect in Eastern Cape is expected to appear in the Kariega Magistrates' Court on a charge of murder following the fatal stabbing of his mother's boyfriend.

According to Captain Gerda Swart, it is alleged that the 25-year-old victim and his girlfriend went to visit her son when an argument ensued between the couple at 12pm on Sunday, 25 December at Moo Valley, Despatch.

“It is further alleged that the 25-year-old man also assaulted his girlfriend with a golf club during the argument.

“The couple continued to argue and the son decided to step in an attempt to stop the fight,” Swart said in a statement.

She said the victim then allegedly picked up a stone and attempted to hit the 19-year-old son with it.

“The son then took out a knife and stabbed the man in the chest.

“The 25-year-old man then walked to his own house in Moo Valley where he collapsed and died. The name of the deceased will be released once formal identification is completed,” Swart added.

The suspect was detained on a charge of murder and is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, 28 December.
