DRIVERS around Cape Town parked their taxis as commuters remained at home instead of going to work.

They told Daily Sun that business was slow in the morning and worsened throughout the day.

“In the morning around 5 am, few people were going to work, but as of around 8 am, things started getting worse.

"Under normal circumstances around that time, I should be on my third load to Cape Town, but I realized there were no people, so I decided to park the taxi,” said taxi driver Mzwandile Dlabantu (45).

Another taxi driver Matshepela Sitywebile said other workers were given days off to return to work on Wednesday, 22 March.

He added that he wishes that Julius Malema also intervenes to address the issue of their taxis being taken away by the traffic cops.

Commuters who spoke to the SunTeam in Cape Town said they also struggled to get taxis from town to their homes.

“I normally get inside a taxi and leave for home in less than 15 minutes, but I sat inside for over an hour waiting for it to be full.

"When I was going to town, I did not struggle with taxis because people were going to work in the morning,” said Langa resident Siphokazi Maqhashu.
