TRACY Mbuli (28) is building an empire, one hamburger at a time!

The woman from Joburg is the first in her family to become a businesswoman earning her the title of her family’s very own pioneer.

Tracy is the proud founder of DiChips, a business specialising in burgers and chips loaded with cheese and other toppings.

She has pop-up stalls and bookings at events around the city.

She’s also a solutions analyst at a media company with a certificate in business analysis, a BCom business management degree, as well as a BCom (Hons) in business management.

She said that the Covid-19 pandemic came with many challenges for her and her family.

“I also lost my grandmother and got retrenched from work.

“This sent me into a spiralling depression, but I refused to remain a victim of my situation.

“This meant working with what I had,” she said.

She said her family helped her to buy equipment and other essentials to get the ball rolling.

But this is not Tracy’s first business. She fell pregnant at 21 when she was studying and her parents revoked her monthly allowance, and she had to make a plan.

Suddenly I had to act like a mom and I quickly learned to be independent and take care of myself,” she said. With my last allowance, I bought second-hand clothes in the Joburg CBD and sold them at school,” she said.

She also started a small food market called House of Eden.

Tracy said that her success is rooted in courage and resilience.
