ALTHOUGH the family of slain Dr Michael Isabelle is still mourning his passing, they are glad police have arrested suspects in connection with his murder.

Family friend, Unati Mabandla told Daily Sun: “We agreed, as a family, that we will take time to heal, look after the children, the wife and Dobsonville's community members who were impacted by the sudden death of Dr Isabelle.

"From the start, we always believed that police must be given space to do what they are able to do. And they have done that."

The two suspects, who are linked to Isabelle's murder and a robbery at his Dobsonville, Soweto, surgery on 26 February will appear in the Joburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 25 March.

They face murder, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition charges.

Three suspects allegedly entered the surgery around 3pm and claimed that one of them was not feeling well. As soon as all of them got into the consulting room, witnesses heard gunshots and the three fled the scene in a vehicle stolen at the scene.

The doctor was rushed to a local clinic with gunshot wounds. He succumbed to his injuries that day.

Police spokeswoman, Brigadier Brenda Muridili said: “Two suspects were arrested at their homes in Alexandra, where some of the victim's belongings were found and two unlicensed firearms were seized.”

She said the two suspects alleged that the third suspect was shot by the doctor during the robbery, and died in the car as they fled the scene.

“They further alleged that they dumped his body and informed his family where to find it. They then burned the stolen car. The investigating team, which includes members from the Soweto Serious Violent Crimes Unit, Joburg Crime Intelligence, Crime Scene Management, Soweto K9, SAPS Orlando, Gauteng Traffic and the JMPD is following up on information regarding the third suspect as well as the vehicle,” said Muridili.
