THOUSANDS of Springboks supporters filled the streets of Cape Town to welcome the world cup winning team.

Captain Siya Xolisi and his team walked around the streets of Cape Town parading the Web Ellis Cup to the curious and jubilant crowd.

Kolisi and winger Cheslin Kolbe addressed the crowd, thanking them for the support. "We want to thank you for your support and the love you have shown us," said Kolbe.

He said while they were in France, their coaches told them it was no longer about them as players, but they had to play with the supporters and their country in mind.

Kolbe said although they are from different backgrounds, they managed to work together to achieve the success that the whole country is celebrating today.

Kolisi lifted the cup in front of the wild crow. Kolisi, just like Kolbe, emphasised the importance of working together to achieve success.

He said even though many people were not with them in France, the team felt the support through the videos posted on social media.

He said:

Everything was possible because of your support. We are grateful that you were behind us throughout the tournament.

Among the guests on stage was Minister of Sports of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa. He said Western Cape has been crucial in supporting Springboks and many social media videos came from the province.

The tour bus drove around the streets of Cape Town CBD before it left for kasi.

Some workers in their uniforms were seen jostling just to have a glimpse of the green Bokke bus.

Springboks supporter Natalie Hans (34) from Kuilsriver said she has been wearing Springboks colours since the beginning of the world cup.

“Even my pyjamas are in Springboks colours, that’s how much I love and support them. I’m happy that they managed to come to Cape Town. When I took a day off at work they knew I was coming to the victory parade and they didn’t have a problem with it,” she said.

Andile Marothi from Khayelitsha said: “The boys made us proud. I’m proudly South African because of this team. We are the world champions and it is something that we should not take lightly. It’s a big deal to me.”
