THE Boks' Webb Ellis Cup tour was in full swing in the inner city of Joburg on Thursday, 2 November.

Mzansi flags were raised high, and Jozi streets were painted in green and gold by Springboks' fans.

These where the scenes as the Springboks made their way through the crowds at the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Braamfontein on Thursday, on a bus marked with the words "Rugby World Cup 2023 Championship".

The victorious Springboks started their four-day trophy tour on Thursday.

The first leg of the tour started bright and early at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, from where the parade ended at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Braamfontein fever

Springbok fan Mpeleheng Mpholi was dressed in green and gold to see the World Cup players as they paraded through the streets of Joburg with the Webb Ellis trophy.

"What this win means to me is that it gives me hope and gives me the wonderful feeling of being a South African.

"The fact that we can stand on the world stage and be celebrated as heroes is something we can all be proud of," said Mpeleheng.

Scenes on Vilakazi Street, Soweto

Another fan, Maanda Matambele on Vilakazi Street, Soweto, expressed his excitement at witnessing the Springboks win the World Cup for the fourth time in a row. He said this was a momentous time in history and he would always cherish the victory as a South African.

“This is my fourth experience of watching the Boks win from 1995, 2007, 2019 and 2023 and this time it feels sweeter because we won it for the second time in a row,” Maanda said.

Beaming atmosphere at FNB Stadium

Fans came in their numbers at the FNB Stadium to give the Bokke a warm welcome as they continued their trophy tour.

Captain Siya Kolisi shared his thoughts on this significant event.

"We really appreciate you. The scenes we have seen today were special. Driving past Soweto, I was reminded of where some of us began because this is where we grew up. I was truly reminded of ubuntu," said Kolisi.
