A car veered off the road and crashed into a street pole.

A SPEEDING driver lost control of his car and crashed into a street light pole as well as a bunch of tyers before the car overturned on Sunday, 10 December.

Although the driver wasn't injured, residents living in Malandela Road at KwaMashu Ksection were left with no electricity.

According to witness Nkosinathi Ntuli (34), the driver was speeding and lost control of his car when he got to a bend.

"I was waiting to cross the road when the car came speeding. He was alone in the car. The next thing the car veered off the road, went straight into a street light pole and then overturned. I was so shocked I thought the driver was dead. But as soon as the car stopped, the driver came out unharmed. I think he didn't suffer visible injuries. Maybe he was injured internally," he said.

Resident Mxolisi Thabede (46) said it's a good thing there were no other cars on the road because it would have been a terrible accident.

"We've seen several cars lose control on this bend, especially on rainy days like today. Some crash into the nearby houses, but this time no house was damaged," he said.

KZN police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.

"There was an accident, however there was no case opened. There were no injuries reported," said Gwala.
