IT'S been almost two years since a woman and her six-year-old son were allegedly killed by her boyfriend.

The man allegedly set alight his girlfriend, Sandra Mabaso (41) by burning down the main bedroom where he had allegedly locked her in.

Daily Sun published the story on 28 August 2022, headlined: Woman burnt beyond recognition.

The suspect (45) fled the scene and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

The police released a photo of the suspect and asked for public’s help to find him, and Daily Sun published the second story on 7 September 2022 with the headline: Man wanted for ‘killing’ partner, child!

At the time, residents had told Daily Sun that Sandra died at the scene while her son, Oratile succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“The man was known for being abusive towards his partner. On the day of the incident, he allegedly stabbed her then set her room on fire,” residents said.

The police previously said an officer attended to the scene and found that the neighbours had already put out the fire, but the main bedroom had burnt down and a woman's body, which was burnt beyond recognition, was found in the room.

Paramedics certified her dead on the scene.

But now, police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said a 45-year-old suspect was arrested in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni on Friday, 12 April.

“He is expected to appear before the Protea Magistrates Court on Monday, 15 April facing a charge of murder and arson,” said Masondo.

It's alleged that the suspect was hiding in Thembisa and using a different name.
