SUNDAY, 14 May was Mother's Day and people expressed their love for their mothers.
Those who have lost their mothers spend the day at cemeteries to remember their departed mothers.
The Makhubu family from Thokoza in Ekurhuleni was one of these families.
Bongani and his family visited their late mom at Schoeman Cemetery in Thokoza.
He said their mother passed on in 1997.

“We came here to say Happy Mother’s Day to our mum and to remind her that she will always be in our hearts. This is a significant day as Africans to remember those who lived with us.
"We have not forgotten her. This is a level of appreciation of the life she lived on earth. We always commemorated her on Mother’s Day," he said.
Bongani said they brought the younger generation with them to teach them about culture.
"There should be a continuation of embracing African spirituality. They should appreciate those who lived among us,” said Bongani.
Khabonina Khopane from Greenfield near Palm Ridge in Ekurhuleni visited their mum's, grandmother's and aunt's graves at Schoeman Cemetery.
She said their loved ones may be gone, but they will always be remembered.
"We are here to clean their graves and honour and celebrate the unconditional love they shared with us while they were still alive.
“The memories they left us with are the comforts of the time they shared with us,” she sadid.
Themba Khambule (55) from Thokoza in Ekurhuleni said a visit to the cemetery and remembrance of the dead is a way to confirm the link between life and death and a tribute to those who have passed on.
He said: “My mother passed on 20 years ago, but I still miss her so much. I would like to advise those who still have their mothers to take care of them and give them love and support while they are still alive.
“It’s so sad to hear stories of young people who assault their mothers and even take their grants. They need to stop abusing their mothers and grandmothers.”
Tshepang Maake brought flowers to his late mum, Yvonne' grave at Isaac Scotty Nyashengo Cemetery in Vosloorus, who passed on in 2021.
He said: “I'm here to remind my mother that she will be always special to me. She was a caring mum who gave me and my two siblings love and taught us to respect others.
“I miss her so much, mostly her food, especially the seven colours.”
