VEHICLE Theft Unit and Mthatha Cash-In-Transit (CIT) arrested a 27-year-old suspect in the Eastern Cape on Thursday, 11 May.

Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the arrest was made after the suspect claimed to be the owner of a Ford Ranger bakkie used in the foiled CIT robbery at Circle Spar in Mthatha.

Mgolodela said one of the four suspects was killed during the foiled robbery on Wednesday morning, 10 May.

She said the suspect allegedly went to the police pound to claim the white Ford Ranger.

“He is reported to have claimed that the vehicle was hijacked on the morning of the robbery,” Mgolodela said.

She said upon questioning the suspect, cops discovered that he had a pending warrant of arrest with the Vehicle Theft Unit, and they arrested him on the spot.

“The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Mthatha Magistrates Court on Monday, 15 May, facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle,” Mgolodela said.
