ANOTHER cop has been gunned down in Motherwell, Gqeberha at the weekend.
Sergeant Khayalethu Mbonomnyama, who was off duty, was killed outside a tavern on Sunday, 7 May.
According to a crime report seen by Daily Sun, the cop and his girlfriend were sitting in a car when the incident happened.
Two unknown men came on foot, fired several shots and ran towards the main road near Cingani High School.
One of them came back and shot the cop again. They then fled in a white getaway vehicle with no registration number.
Hawks spokeswoman Captain Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed the incident and said the motive is not known yet.

“The officer attached to the Swartkops Rapid Response Unit was shot outside Aya's tavern at Mgwalana Street in Motherwell on Sunday, 7 May. The shooting happened at about 2.30pm, and the Hawks are investigating the matter,” Mgolodela said.
Mbonomnyama is the third sergeant to be killed in the Eastern Cape in two weeks.
Sergeant Mario Nel was shot and killed at Motherwell Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 3 May. This is after the alleged suspect, Andile Nyoka, entered the court, disarmed Nel and shot him dead.
Nyoka was wounded in a shoot-out with police and he abandoned his bail when he made his first appearance in court on Friday, 5 May.
He is charged with two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and two counts of attempted murder.
His case was postponed to 9 June for further investigation and the appointment of legal representation.
Sergeant Lwando Bunga (41), attached to the Public Order Police (POP) unit, was killed when he responded to an armed robbery at the Fidelity premises in East London on Monday, 1 May.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
