THE death of Lethabo Sibanda, who was popularly known as Biggish, has left many people heartbroken.

The 19-year-old grade 11 Hoer Tegniese Skool Rustenburg pupil was stabbed by another pupil at Rustenburg Bus Rank in the North West on Friday, 2 June.

Family and friends gathered at Tsitsing Primary School on Thursday, 8 June to pay tribute to Lethabo.

One of Lethabo's friends, Onkabetse Mafokwane, said they were deeply saddened by his death. “Lethabo was an amazing person with a bright personality. We will surely miss him,” said Onkabetse.

Another friend, Mashudi Makanye, said he couldn’t believe it when the news broke.

“I had already left when the fight happened. I later came to understand that my friend, Lethabo, was stabbed to death,” he said.

Mashudi said he gathered strength to call Lethabo’s mother to inform her about the incident. “Life is going to be hard without him,” he said.

Lethabo's uncle, Aaron Sibanda, said Lethabo loved people and laughed with everyone. “We are mourning the untimely death of our son. We will never see him again," he said.

Aaron said they will wait for the law to take its course. “We are going to trust the justice system to do their work without interruptions," he said.

A Hoer Tegniese Skool Rustenburg School Governing Body member, who refused to give Daily Sun his name, encouraged the pupils to focus on their exams.

Speaking at the memorial service, he said the challenge they have at the school is that the children are uncontrollable. He pleaded with them to listen to their parents.

“Change your behaviour because your future depends on it. Concentrate on your studies and stop loitering in the streets. Let everything you do be for the benefit of your future,” he said.
