VIOLENCE erupted at Hoër Tegniese School Rustenburg, North West on Tuesday, 6 June when pupils disrupted teaching and learning following the death of a grade 11 pupil on Friday, 2 June at Rustenburg bus stop.
Lethabo Sibanda (19) was stabbed to death by a pupil from another school. Pupils refused to attend classes and started damaging school property. A video of the pupils breaking tables and chairs went viral on social media.

They were allegedly demanding justice for the Lethabo and some pupils even held cardboard signs written, “Justice for Lethabo".
Parent Sizwe Dlamini from Tlhabane said they quickly went to the school when they heard about the violence. He said they were concerned.
“The situation was out of hand. We need the parents, police and department to join hands with the school and intervene," he said.
Sizwe said the parents were committed to work together with the school governing body to get to the bottom of the violence and find solutions.
North West Education spokesman Mphata Molokwane pleaded with the pupils to allow law enforcement to deal with the matter. Molokwane said the department was worried that the violence might affect the school's performance as June exams have started.
“Pupils must refrain from acts of violence and misconduct,” said Molokwane.
