THE residents of Ha- Sethunya Village in QwaQwa, Free State had to play a vital role of saving the life of an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) official who was trapped inside a crushed ambulance on Wednesday, 26 October.

The female official, who suffered head injuries, was in a critical condition when she was taken to Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital.

The woman was alone in the ambulance. Resident Thapelo Mokoena (32) told Daily Sun the ambulance was travelling at a high speed on the R57 road near the Charles Mopeli Stadium when the driver lost control.

Free State health spokesman Mondli Mvambi said the ambulance was driven by a female EMS official (38) from Kestel, which is a satellite station linked to QwaQwa.

The paramedic had just dropped off her colleague after their shift.

“She lost control of the vehicle when approaching a curve on a downhill road surface. The probable cause of the accident is suspected to be the momentum of the vehicle on a sudden downhill slope.

“The matter is subjected to an investigation to determine the actual cause of the accident. The were no patients in the ambulance,” he said.
