AS the murder trial of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa continues at the North Gauteng High Court in Tshwane on Tuesday, 6 September, presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela has raised concerns that it is now dealing with sideshows.
Addressing lawyers, Maumela said he has noted that the discovery for purposes of the case had not been done simultaneously for all concerned. He said it has not been done in a manner that was fair to all.
“The time we use here is precious. We seem to be busy with the obvious. The issue is about the second docket not being made known to all concerned sooner.”
He said that Advocate Zandile Mshololo’s cross-examination of Sergeant Thabo Mosia, as the state’s first witness, had stalled.
Maumela requested all legal representatives in court, including attorney TT Thobane for the first four accused, to go into his chambers for a discussion about the delays.
Meanwhile, speaking to Daily Sun,Mosia said he was ready for cross-examination. After undergoing surgery in July, he had some struggle with standing for a long time during his first cross-examination.
“I feel better now, and the pain is no longer that strong. I will be able to handle the pressure and stand for a long time,” he said.
He shared that the back pain was caused by an accident he had while on duty in 2020, and had undergone three surgeries so far. He was only left with one procedure.
“I’m not looking forward to the last one because it’s too dangerous. I want to heal from this one first,” he said.
