AFTER ALL these years, even the most faithful believer in the law could be forgiven for losing hope.
But today is the historic day that marks the beginning of the long-awaited trial in the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.

Family spokesman, Siyabonga Meyiwa told Daily Sun they are hopeful the trial will shed more light on the case and reveal what really happened on the night Senzo was killed.
“We pray for the truth. We want the total truth,” said Siyabonga.
“We hope there won’t be any delays. We want swift justice.”

Siyabonga said if Senzo’s father Sam was still alive, he would have been very pleased to see the developments.
Senzo’s father spent the last years of his life hoping to see justice being done but that was not to be. Sam died a heartbroken and sad man after years of hoping for the truth.
Five men, Muzikawulahlelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokosizi Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Ntuli, have been charged with the murder of the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.
They face charges of murder, attempted murder, being in possession of a firearm and ammunitions as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances.
During their court appearance in October, the suspects said they were innocent.
In March their case was transferred to Gauteng High Court.
Last week, Ntuli, one of the accused, was found guilty in the Esikhaleni Regional Court in Richards Bay of the murder of ANC KZN Ward Councillor Thami Nyembe and five other people.
Siyabonga said they were happy that justice had been served and they hope the same will happen to them.
“We rely and have faith in the judicial system. We still believe there is a mastermind who must be arrested. We want to see perpetrators of this crime behind bars.
“We hope the trial will further reveal names and communications involving Senzo’s death,” said Siyabonga.
AfriForum’s private prosecutor Gerrie Nel is representing the family. According to earlier reports, Nel expressed frustration that the mastermind was still out there.
Senzo was shot and killed in 2014 at the home of his then girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.
Among those who were present at the time of the shooting were Kelly’s mother Ntombi Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo-Gumede, her sister’s then boyfriend Longwe Twala and Kelly’s two children.
Siyabonga said they were working towards keeping Senzo’s legacy alive.
The Senzo Meyiwa Foundation is expected to be launched soon.
“Senzo loved his community. He was concerned about the things happening in his community and he wanted change.
“The foundation is a reflection of the change he believed in. He wanted to do good,” said Siyabonga.
The foundation will mostly fight drugs and promote sports activities.
