So, he went to inspect the stream in Sebokeng zone 7, Vaal and was shocked to hear a baby crying from inside a plastic bag which was floating in the water.

Resident Tsietsi Radipadi (55) told Daily Sun that it takes a village to keep a child alive and he wishes all community members could be like Tumelo.

Mothers from around the kasi also helped the saved baby with new clothes.

Evaton police spokeswoman Constable Thulisile Msibi confirmed the incident, saying Evaton police received a complaint of a baby who was thrown into the river but was rescued by residents of Sebokeng zone 7.

Msibi said the baby boy was taken to Sebokeng Hospital for medical attention and is doing well under the observation of health workers.

She added that the police have opened a case of concealment of birth and investigations are underway. No suspect has been arrested.
