TEACHERS and learners from the Way of Life Junior University were left traumatised after five gunmen robbed them on Monday, 19 January.

The armed robbers entered the premises, walking behind the unsuspecting school manager who had just arrived.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, armed men, some whose faces were captured by the camera, are seen robbing the staff members of their belongings before fleeing the scene.

A parent who spoke to Daily Sun said the thugs are heartless to rob teachers in front of the learners.

“My boy told me that men with guns came to the schools and took their teachers’ phones. It's heartless to traumatise children with firearms. How do they rob teachers in front of the kids?” said the 32-year-old mother whose child attends the school.

Principal Nthabeleng Motsohi said they were shocked by the robbery incident.

“Five unknown men with guns forcefully entered behind the school manager as he was arriving at school around 10am on Monday, 19 February. They unfortunately confiscated mobile property, that of the school and some staff members.

“There were no learners that interacted or were addressed by the robbers even though some did see them. The incident has been reported to the police, and fortunately, we have some footage that shows the culprits’ faces. An investigation is ongoing by law enforcement,” said Motsohi.

Motsohi urged parents with access to any counselling service to take their kids in for counselling.

The school is still waiting for the counselling services from the police.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed the incident. “According to the 49-year-old complainant, four unidentified males entered the premises and at gunpoint threatened the staff.

“The suspects took laptops, cellphones and school equipment and fled the scene. No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made yet. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS mobile application,” said Van Wyk.
