Thousands of social grant beneficiaries nationwide were frustrated.

MINISTER of Communications and Digital Technologies Mondli Gungubele confirmed on Thursday, 21 September, that social grant payments will not be affected by system glitches come October.

Thousands of grant recipients received their payments late in September, allegedly due to issues related to upgrading the Postbank's automated system.

"As a result, grant payments were conducted manually, resulting in numerous delays. The Post bank has assured that all SASAA grants beneficiaries whose accounts were affected by the system challenge on 5 and 6 September have been quarantined," he said.

Gungubele assured recipients that this would not happen again in the next cycle.

He also reiterated that the resignation of the Postbank board would not interfere with the day-to-day operations as he declined to be drawn into questions about whether the CEOs of all these critical entities would resign if the same happened in the future.

Gungubele said the technical glitch left thousands of grant beneficiaries, primarily pensioners, without their Sassa payouts due to a systems upgrade at the South African Postbank.

Thousands of social grant beneficiaries nationwide were frustrated and disheartened after their funds were stalled by the Postbank's new malfunctioning payment system.
