FORMER Congress of the People (Cope) member and president of South African Rainbow Alliance (Sara), Colleen Makhubela, has expressed concern about the wealthy owning Mzansi's democracy.
She said this responding to the news of former ANC member and FirstRand chairman Roger Jardine launching his own political party on Sunday, 10 December.
Jardine launched his party called Change Starts Now, joining dozens of new political parties to contest in the 2024 general elections.
Makhubele said it feels as if public representatives are selected for South Africans, bought, and bossed by the elite.
She said the horror of watching Jardine attempting to convince them that he is a candid authentic servant of the people left such a deep sad hole in her gut.

Makhubele further said leaders-to-be are bought and bossed in the champagne rooms and there are very real efforts and plans underway to disable democracy.
The Sara leader said they think that if young people don't show up in the upcoming elections, they would have missed potentially their last opportunity to bring back real leadership to courageously change the daily lives of the people in this country.
“I'm calling on young people to take back our democracy. We are not helpless in the face of money and power interfering with our democracy. I was fired for this! Now I am fired up! The fire is still burning in all South Africans,” she said.
Makhubela said many people died and sacrificed for their voices to determine their future, not overseas money and the rich.
