THE South African Rainbow Alliance (Sara) will be on the 2024 election ballot paper.
Sara made the announcement on Friday, 8 March.
“It's no coincidence that Sara, a black woman-led political party in South Africa, today on International Women’s Day, qualifies for both national and provincial elections on 29 May,” said Sara leader, Colleen Makhubele.
She thanked Mzansi for believing in her party. She said female participation and leadership was important to the change needed in the country.
“Women’s vote will be a swing vote to decide the future of this nation. The electorate has shown confidence in Sara, and it's a clear indication that the sentiment is that only a woman on top can change South Africa. This great accomplishment comes as the world commemorates International World Women’s Day,” said Makhubele.
Sara will launch its manifesto at Mdabula Stadium in Limpopo on Saturday, 16 March. The day will mark four months since the party was formed.
“We can’t wait to share our candidate list, which will be a clear indication of achieving gender parity, generational mix, merit-based appointments and competency and moral clarity in politics.”

Makhubele was fired by Cope leader, Mosiuoa Lekota in November 2023.
She said many unemployed graduates couldn't wait to finally get an opportunity to be productive and serve their country while feeding their families.
“Our achievement is a testament to our resilience. And as we approach the Sara manifesto launch, the direction we wish to take South Africa in, economic recovery plan, national debt eradication and creation of jobs will be self-evident,” she said.
Meanwhile, the IFP also announced that it has submitted its national and provincial list to the IEC.
"We've managed to conclude this process timeously and submitted to the IEC yesterday," said IFP deputy president, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi.
