THAMSANQA Kenke has dumped the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) for uMkhonto weSizwe party.

According to Kenke, who is the former national Sanco spokesman, he left the civic organisation on Saturday, 2 March after he was made aware that their national office bearers allegedly have issues with Sanco members who support other political parties other than the ANC.

"The president and deputy president of Sanco had on a number of occasions said that if you are not willing to campaign for the ANC, you must get out of Sanco," he said.

“I'm following uMkhonto weSizwe. Zuma is not necessarily the president of uMkhonto weSizwe party. He's one of the people supporting the organisation. uMkhonto weSizwe is new. It offers us a chance to contribute towards the policy direction it'll take. ANC policies are determined by big business. Even individual members of the ANC don't have power as to what direction the organisation needs to take."

Kenke said a number of things make uMkhonto weSizwe unique.

"It provides an alternative to today's body politic. Old parties leave people hopeless. uMkhonto weSizwe comes in with new ideas, vision and people to lead it," he said.

“The party is not yet in power, and some of our leaders have track records. During Zuma's presidency, there was construction happening and the municipality was clean. Today, nothing is happening."

Kenke is also a former Gauteng Social Development spokesman. He said the unemployment rate continues to escalate and load shedding is here to stay.

"I don't think our party is the messiah in South Africa's politics. It's one of the catalysts that will help the country fast track development and transformation," said Kenke.

Meanwhile, Sanco general secretary, Mike Soko said: "There's no Sanco member who's forced to be a member of the ANC. In our constitution, it's clear that membership will be opened to all citizens and residents in South Africa, irrespective of race, colour, gender, political affiliation, class and geographical location, and should be over 18 years old.

"Sanco is a voluntary organisation. Its constitution says Sanco will be free to enter into an alliance agreement with any progressive political party to advance its aims and objectives," he said.
