ON Friday, 18 August, the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) dismissed the attack on President Cyril Ramaphosa by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.
Sanco described the attack on BRICS summit to be hosted by South Africa as pathetic, vile and unpatriotic by a "peacetime hero and a phantom Gucci revolutionary".Sanco National Interim Committee (NIC) national coordinator, Paul Sebegoe said: "Malema has no appreciation of the responsibilities that a sitting head of state has to contend with as well as the volatility of markets that are largely influenced by geopolitics.
"His desperate theatrics and reckless criticism of South Africa for hosting the summit in the absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin has exposed him as a populist who has no idea of South Africa’s foreign policy, including how international diplomacy works."

Sebegoe said by calling on President of China Xi Jinping and India’s Prime Minister Narendra to boycott the BRICS Summit, Malema was acting against Mzansi's best interests."His treacherous call that amounts to nothing, but myopic political grandstanding aimed at projecting himself as an influential leader has further exposed him as a demagogue that is oblivious of the diversity of South Africa’s interests which are safeguarded by its cautious and responsible stance to global conflicts," he said.
Sebegoe accused Malema of being spiteful. He said the agenda of the summit includes a single currency for the BRICS countries as well as other pertinent issues that the EFF is dreaming of championing to profile itself as a continental and international player.
"It's undeniable that President Rampahosa is not spineless, but a visionary internationalist and a skilled negotiator who has managed to reposition South Africa as a leading continental, global player, a peace broker,” Sebegoe said.
He said Mzansi can't afford to miss the opportunities that BRICS will bring.
