RAMA City in Tshwane now has a place to play.

This after the first-ever skating rink in the area was unveiled on Saturday, 16 December.

Rama City chairman Mpho Nthite told Daily Sun they spent more than R200 000 to build the beautiful sporting facility.

He said he was proud and excited to open the skating rink facility at Rama City.

Nthite said it was his childhood dream to see a black community having such a facility on their doorsteps.

He said he started skating in the 1980s.

"We used to watch skating on TV. Honestly speaking, this is a dream come true for me and the black community."

Nthite said he hoped it would do miracles to change the lives of children and even adults.

He said they would teach children to roller skate.

"I hope it will take away children from the streets.

"This is a very easy game. It's the same as if you are dancing and cycling. Patience and practice will bring the best out of you," he said.

Nthite said it took them more than six months to complete it.

He said they did indoor and outdoor skating.

"In the olden days, we didn't have children who were using drugs, unlike now many children are on drugs.

"We will continue making changes and have plans for next year," said Nthite.

He said skating is expensive but because they have the community's interest at heart, they'll charge R60 a day.

Nthite said Rama City is all about new things and will continue building other sporting facilities.

He said they plan to turn Rama City into a smart city and make it one of the beautiful places in the country.

Jessica Letswalo said: "This is a beautiful project, and children will enjoy and learn skating."

Rama City donated food parcels to the elderly around Madidi, Ga-Rankuwa, and surrounding areas.

They also donated Christmas clothes to more than 350 children.

Seitebong Moabi (15) said she had always wished to skate but never had an opportunity.

“I saw skating as an expensive sport. I dreamt that we would have this in our community. I can’t wait to start," Seitebong said.
