A 49-YEAR-OLD woman accused of killing relatives to benefit from Insurance payouts, Segomotsi Agnes Setshwantsho, allegedly refused her late husband, who was a police Warrant Officer, to talk to his colleague.
The colleague reportedly called to check his whereabouts after he absconded from work for a year.
Later, before he died, she went to the station commander where her husband worked and inquired about his pension funds.
This was evidence presented by Sergeant Keshi Mabunda before the Mmabatho Magistrates Court, North West, on Wednesday, 13 December, to persuade the court not to give bail to Setshwantsho.
Setshwantsho was arrested in November in Pretoria, where she was linked to the murder of her niece, 30-year-old Bonolo Modiseemang.
She faces a charge of murder, two counts of fraud, and defeating the ends of justice.
Setshwantsho is alleged to have been involved in several deaths, including that of her husband, Justice Setshwantsho, who died in 2016.
Cross-examining Keshi, Setshwantsho's attorney, Nhlanhla Mahlangu, asked what steps were taken to try and investigate Setshwantsho's husband's mysterious death.
"The deceased had almost a year without going to work, Colonel Selepe called to check whether he was sick, he phoned him then only got to speak to the accused who refused him to talk to Mr. Setshwantsho and Selepe was told [By Setshwantsho] to stop the salary of the deceased," he said.

It's not yet clear what led to the death of the accused's husband.
Keshi also said that Setshwantsho has a bogus resident address in Irene Park Klerksdorp.
The address appears in her many insurance policies and several banks.
When Keshi investigated, he discovered that the owner of the property had never had a tenant named Setshwantsho.
He said Setshwantsho was a flight risk and would endanger witnesses in the case, including the family she had insured.
“She is even a danger to herself,” Keshi said. The court also heard that Setshwantsho applied for a passport before her arrest.
Setshwantsho's bail hearing was postponed to Wednesday, 20 December.
The state intends to call another witness (a correctional service employee) who will testify that the facility is well equipped to store insulin medicine needed by Setshwantsho.
