MULTI-MILLION alleged insurance scammer Agnes Segomotsi Setshwantsho had 58 insurance policies under her name.

She also had several accounts with different banks and properties that she did not disclose to the police.

This was chilling evidence revealed by Sergeant Keshi Mabunda on Wednesday, 6 December, at the Mmabatho Magistrates Court in the North West.

Setshwantsho (49) was arrested in November and accused of killing her niece, 30-year-old Bonolo Modiseemang, for a fraudulently obtained life cover insurance policy.

The court also heard that Setshwantsho insured Modiseemang's younger sister for R2 million.

She is facing a charge of murder, two counts of fraud, and defeating the ends of justice.

She was arrested in Pretoria following two months of investigation by police led by Mabunda, who is well-known for nabbing a case involving insurance payouts linked to infamous killer Rosemary Ndlovu.

Setshwantsho entered the courtroom and informed Magistrate Duane Spandiel that she was mistreated by police officials but said she was fit enough to stand for a bail hearing.

Modiseemang died in August 2022.

A month later, Modiseemang ’s body was exhumed, and evidence collected, which ultimately led to the arrest of Setshwantsho.

According to the police, they began looking into several unexplainable deaths in the family, including the death of Setshwantsho's son, which was followed by the death of her husband and two more deaths of her children.

The state said it would oppose her release on bail as she is facing a schedule six offence and that she was a flight risk as she has relatives in Botswana.

The case was postponed to Wednesday, 13 December, for a further bail hearing.
