THE North Gauteng High Court has heard that R100 000 was put aside for the hit that killed Bafana Bafana soccer star Senzo Meyiwa.
This is according to the confession statement of accused two Bongani Ntanzi.
It was read in court on Friday, 15 March by Colonel Solomon Raphadu, who took down Ntanzi's first confession on 19 June 2020 at Moroka Police Station in Soweto.
In October 2014, Ntanzi said he received a call from accused four Mthokoziseni Maphisa, informing him there was a plan to kill Meyiwa.
He said singer Kelly Khumalo, the then-girlfriend of the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, was going to pay for the hit.
"I was briefed that the person to be eliminated was Senzo Meyiwa, and it was initiated by Kelly Khumalo. She would pay for it,” he said.
Ntanzi in the confession statement said on the day of the incident, he and Mthobisi Mncube - one of the five accused - went inside the house.
He said Mncube staged the robbery and demanded money and cellphones, but Meyiwa refused, and a scuffle broke out, leading to him being shot.

Ntanzi said Mncube shot Meyiwa after that he was paid R50 000 on return to the hostel. The following day, he was further paid R30 000 by accused five Fisokuhle Ntuli.
Accused one Muzi Sibiya said he received a call from Mncube and Marco Buthelezi, who were his friends staying at Volsoorus Hostel.
He said they then visited the sangoma to check if they would be successful in their mission. They paid him R50 for consulting and then R5 000 after the job was done.
He said when they were driving to do the job, Buthelezi received a call and he responded, saying: "We are on the way. He told us it was Kelly Khumalo."
When they arrived, they discussed who would go inside the house. They then decided to stage a robbery. Sibiya said he was paid 30 000 the next day by Buthelezi. A gun used was sold to Mthobisi Sithole, who was from KZN.
He said Buthelezi was later shot and killed in Daveyton by police.
But there was drama in the morning when the keys were unable to open the court cells inside the court. The trial will continue on Monday, 18 March.
