PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa left community members of Evaton West angry that he didn’t listen to the sewage problem that the Department of Water and Sanitation has built next to their houses.
This is after Ramaphosa visited the embattled Emfuleni Local Municipality on Friday, 27 October, to assess the progress of refurbishment of the Sebokeng water treatment plant and a newly built sewage station situated next to houses in Evaton West, Vaal.
Resident Thuli Msimanga told Daily Sun that she no longer enjoys her delicious food due to the sewage smell.
"It's been three years since the station was built and at night, the smell of the raw sewage is worse as it gives us sleepless nights.
"We tried to talk to the municipality several times, but nothing happened. We were happy that the president has come to hear our challenges regarding the sewage station, but he left without addressing the community," Thuli said.

She said their kasi has a big pothole that the residents have turned into a "swimming pool" when it rains.
"It’s rainy season, and no one is telling the community when the big pothole will be fixed," she said.
Addressing the media, Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu said the information they received at the plant from managers showed improvement.
"The quality of the plant is almost up to standard, and soon, there will be no sewage problems in Emfuleni," he said.
