WHILE Mzansi people spent their Easter long weekend worshiping God at their various churches and others at different tourists’ destinations, President Cyril Ramaphosa and EFF leader Julius Malema, spent their Easter Sunday at the St. Engenas Zion Christian Church.
They both arrived at the church’s headquarters in Moria at Ga-Mamabolo outside Polokwane, Limpopo on Sunday, 31 March where they were received by the church leader, His Grace Bishop Dr Joseph Lekganyane.
Thousands of worshippers had also descended to Moria from Thursday to pray and celebrate the gift of life and also ask for blessings and luck. Malema's visit sought to mark and honour the ideals of the Easter period, which are of resurrection, goodwill and peace.
President Ramaphosa was accompanied by Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, including some Limpopo ANC provincial executive committee members. The visit to the church was to pay homage, pray with congregants and also receive blessings from the bishop.

The pilgrimage comes three days after 45 people died while travelling from Botswana to Moria along the R518 road. The incident happened when the bus they were traveling in lost control and plunged into the Mamatlakala Bridge outside Mokopane on Thursday, 28 March. An eight-year-old girl was the only sole survivor from the tragic accident.
The church is still recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 lockdown as some of the congregants were still observing the Covid-19 regulations by wearing face mask and sanitising. This is while the Zion Christian Church remains closed amid the pandemic, even though the branches were allowed to continue operating.
