SANDILE Mbatha, who is accused of killing two Soweto boys Tshidiso Ramatlo and Katleho Letseli for allegedly stealing VW Polo lights, will appear in the Joburg High Court on Friday, 8 March.

This after the case was postponed on Monday, 4 March.

The postponement was for the state attorney and defence counsel to prepare for a proper argument after the media requested to cover the court proceedings.

The media requested to cover the proceedings, including taking photographs and video footage where necessary.

Before the sitting, which was set for trial to start on Monday, Judge Coertse informed the gallery that he received a letter for permission for media coverage.

He asked the state attorney what his thoughts were on the application.

Advocate Monde Mbaqa said:” As far as the state is concerned, this is an open court. An open court means that everyone is welcome to sit, listen and view the proceedings. That is in the spirit of justice. I have no objections to the request.”

Representing the accused, defence counsel Lumka Qoqo said: “I would like to oppose the publication, especially the photographs of the accused. The defence doesn’t oppose the media being here, but the photos of the accused I am opposing the camera to be in court."

The families of the two boys were left disappointed that the accused doesn’t want to show his face to the public while their children were allegedly killed like dogs.
