Police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela said on Monday, 11 December, cops from Alberton together with members of the Ekurhuleni District Wardens and other partners conducted an operation on illegal mining.

"During the operation, a suspected house was searched and a large quantity of copper cables and pendukas suspected to have been used by the illegal miners were recovered.

"The seized items have been confiscated by the state and the suspects are still at large. We are appealing to the public to come forward with information that can help in the arrest of the suspects," Sekgobela said.
