THE Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has launched a manhunt for armed suspects who allegedly robbed motorists in peak hour of traffic on M1 north near Crown Interchange in Joburg on Tuesday, 20 February.
JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla said they were aware of the incident, but no one had been brought to book.
“The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department has been made aware of an incident that allegedly happened this morning on the N1 at the Crown Interchange where unknown men with firearms robbed motorists who were queuing in traffic,” he said.
He said no victims were found at the scene.
“After receiving these reports, the Johannesburg tactical response unit was deployed in the area to search for the suspects. Officers are currently on scene, and no one has been found,” he said.
Fihla urged people to open cases to allow investigations.
“We urge the victims involved in this incident to immediately report and open a criminal case at the police station against the culprits for the police to investigate the matter. And JMPD will continue to monitor the area to search and trace for the suspects,” Fihla said.
