TWO undertakers, allegedly known in the Vaal, south of Joburg, were arrested.

The incident happened on Wednesday, 13 December at the Department of Home Affairs office in Ennerdale after their striker was arrested with forged documents while trying to obtain death certificates to claim insurance money.

According to a source he told Daily Sun, that the two went to the Home Affairs offices in Vereeniging and found that the officials they normally work with had not turned up for work.

"This scam of forging death certificates to claim insurance money has been around for a long time and many get away with it," the source said.

He claimed that the two then decided to find a lady who works at the Home Affairs office in Ennerdale.

They allegedly promised her money, but Ennerdale officials alerted the police, and the woman called her bosses, after which the duo was arrested.

The source told SunTeam that the duo takes people’s life profile, drive to the Home Office and claim the person is dead while they are still alive to collect insurance money.

"The two always have the same modus operandi and use desperate people to do their dirty business, but this time we are grateful to the police for arresting them."

Gauteng Police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said two people, a man and a woman aged 52 and 38 respectively were arrested in Ennerdale on Wednesday afternoon for fraud.

Nevhuhulwi said the suspects are expected to appear before the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 December 2023 to answer charges of fraud.
