A 14-year-old boy has died after allegedly being stabbed with his own knife during a pens down celebration.
He was stabbed at a shebeen in Witsand in Atlantis, Western Cape, allegedly by a 15-year-old boy last Saturday, 3 December.
“The boys were celebrating, smoking and drinking,” said a resident.
“An argument ensued between them. The deceased allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket but a third boy, a friend to the one who was arguing, grabbed it and stabbed him.”
South Africa National Civic Organisation deputy secretary for the Cape Peninsula region Nolufefe Mbombo, who is also a community leader, said people reported that the boy was stabbed with his own knife.
“The kids were celebrating with those who have completed their matric exams.
“It is alleged that the boy was stabbed during an argument,” she said, adding that her kasi had a problem of unlicensed shebeens.
“No one is saying people must close their businesses, but they should have reasonable trading times because things like this could have been avoided.”
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said cops attended a crime scene in the early hours, where they found the body of boy, who sustained a stab wound to his chest.

“The victim was declared dead by the medical personnel,” said Swartbooi.
He said that the motive for the attack was unknown, and the suspect had been arrested.
“Atlantis police are investigating a murder.”
Western Cape Education Department (WCED) spokeswoman Bronagh Hammond said they were aware of the sad loss of a young life.
“WCED has provided counselling to the school. Our condolences to the family, friends and school community.”
