LESS people are getting married these days, and some couples stay together for years without making it official.
Sangoma and pastor Phindile "Gogo Magwaza" Mokoena said this has a negative impact on the kids.
Phindile claimed that children whose parents are not married or in a vat en set (cohabitation) arrangement tend to have a hard time later on in life.
"To open the way for their children, parents need to get married," she said.
Phindile said it's not only the kids who are affected but also their mothers.
"Some women stay in vat en sit relationship because they don't want to be laughed at. Others allow their children to be abused because the abuser is a breadwinner. They fail to protect children. There's a lot going on in these relationships. Men have to pay ilobolo," Phindile said.
One woman (45) said she had been with her partner since she was 26.
"I have three kids with my partner. I've been waiting for him to pop the question, but he's just quiet. I'm angry with him for wasting my time, but where am I supposed to go with three children?" she said.
A man, who didn't want to be identified, claimed that some women throw themselves on men and get pregnant just to entrap.
