THE days of municipal workers sleeping under trees are over.

This was a strong warning from Andile Mngwevu, Ekurhuleni MMC for Transport Planning, Roads and Stormwater, to municipal workers during the launch of Sivala ama-pothole in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni on Thursday, 7 September.

"The time for our workers to sleep under the trees and do nothing is over. We are here to ensure that the work is done regularly," Mngwevu said.

He said as the MMC, he is out to monitor the progress of service delivery in and around Ekurhuleni.

Mngwevu encouraged the workers to continue and sustain their work as they're responsible for closing potholes.

"This will ensure that the issues are attended speedily,”

Residents of Nhlapo section in Ekurhuleni said they're happy that the municipality is closing potholes in their area.

Tumelo Mfeka (48) said all their streets are full of potholes.

"During load shedding, the road becomes an even bigger problem as motorists use it as a shortcut to avoid the main road with its potholes," Tumelo said.

Another resident, Themba Molefe (52), said he hopes the municipality will continue monitoring the potholes in the streets.

"The potholes are fixed today and few months down the line, we experience the same problem again. Rainy season is upon us and soon there will be potholes again. The municipality must not wait for the streets to be worse before they start fixing them," Themba said.
